Founder's Take

"LaunchDarkly is a solid find if you’re looking to manage who sees which features across your site or product. The toggles and flags feel practical for testing new designs or experiences with smaller user groups. It does lean heavily on the dev side, so your marketing team might need some extra time to get comfortable. Still, once the groundwork is laid, flipping experiences on or off for different cohorts without pinging developers all day can save a ton of back-and-forth."

Why it's used

Imagine you’ve got a new homepage layout or a fresh dashboard tool and you’re nervous about rolling it out to everyone at once. LaunchDarkly uses what’s called feature flagging, a simple on/off switch in your code. If the flag is on, the new feature appears; if it’s off, the old interface stays put. That might sound a bit technical, but once the system is in place, marketing can decide which segment gets the shiny new feature—say VIP customers, users in a certain region, or those with a specific lifetime value—without calling in engineering. It’s particularly helpful when you want to personalize your site or app for people who’ve been around a while, or maybe those who just signed up last week. If you see issues, you can revert quickly instead of scrambling for a hotfix.
